Job Summary
The Utah Lions Eye Bank—an extension of the John A. Moran Eye Center—is a nonprofit organization that has facilitated the gift of sight worldwide through transplantation and research since 1972. By restoring vision, cornea donation changes not only the lives of recipients but also the lives of everyone around them. Located in Murray, Utah, we are a full-service eye bank operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Eye Bank Lab Technician assists the lab on an as-needed basis and is responsible for delivery of tissue, maintenance, distribution, and assisting in processing. Hours vary and are flexible.
Responsibilities
The Lab Technician will be responsible for the following:
- Assist with tissue deliveries on an on-call basis.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of the ULEB laboratory.
- Assist with tissue processing in ULEB specialized processing rooms.
- Assist with tissue distribution and allocation of tissue.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials, and substances. Skilled in the use of laboratory equipment, ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
Preferences
Preferred lab experience or science-related field.
Background in optometry, ophthalmology, or surgery recommended.
Excellent customer service background in a related field.
