River Community Wellness Program located in River Hospital's Medical Office Building is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic outpatient mental health team. Job Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assess patients’ mental health status.
- Develop individualized care plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Prescribe appropriate psychotropic medications and manage medication regimens.
- Provide psychotherapy and counseling services to patients and their families.
- Monitor and evaluate patients' responses to treatment and adjust care plans as necessary.
- Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions and treatment options.
- Maintain detailed and accurate patient records in compliance with privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals.
- Offer crisis intervention and emergency services as needed.
- Stay current with advancements in psychiatric nursing and mental health treatment.
- Participate in continuing education to meet licensure requirements and expand professional expertise.
- Advocate for patients' rights and provide guidance on healthcare resources and referrals.
- Conduct group therapy sessions when applicable.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Provide supervision to junior nursing staff and offer guidance in psychiatric nursing practices.
- Implement strategies to promote health and prevent illness in the psychiatric population.
- Adhere to legal, ethical, and regulatory standards specific to psychiatric care.
Job Requirements
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from an accredited institution.
- Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in New York State.
- Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or equivalent.
- New York State APRN licensure or eligibility.
- DEA registration and prescriptive authority in New York State.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in psychiatric mental health care.
- Experience in medication management for psychiatric conditions.
- Strong understanding of psychiatric diagnoses and evidence-based treatment modalities.
- Ability to conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including the assessment of mental status, psychosocial history, and risk factors.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing individualized care plans, including psychotherapy and psychopharmacology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to psychiatric nursing practice.
- Commitment to continuing education and maintaining competency in psychiatric nursing.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Capacity to manage time effectively.
Other Characteristics
- Ability to organize and carry out new programs and procedures.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Complies with all DOH, OMH and Justice Center requirements.
- Completes Justice Center Mandated Reporter Training and Code of Conduct annually.
Salary is based on years of Licensure and experience as a PMHNP.
