Responsibilities:
- Assesses/reassesses patients and applies the nursing process.
- Care of patients in emergent and/or non-emergent situations.
- Airway Management, Pain Management, Cardiac Monitoring, Invasive Monitoring.
- Specialized IV Drips/titration, Sedation.
- Assist with specialized procedures, i.e., Temp Pacemakers, Cardioversion, Defibrillation, chest tubes, care of fractures, assist with wound repair.
- Use specialized equipment in the care of emergency patients.
- Manages Code Blue in the Elliott building.
- Troubleshooting, COBRA/EMTALA, IV Therapy, Infusion Therapy, Medication Administration.
- ECG Strip Analysis and Interpretation.
- Discharge follow-up education care.
- Information Management.
JOB SUMMARY: Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process, within established standards and practices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists, and adjusts nursing care processes.
- Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and re-assessments as per policy.
- Maintains accurate nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; maintains patient confidentiality.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles.
- Interacts professionally with patients and families.
- Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs.
- Supervises other healthcare staff involved in patient care.
- Responds promptly to changes in workload.
- Participates in performance improvement activities.
- Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees.
- Maintains operation of patient care equipment.
- Demonstrates flexibility and organization under stressful situations.
- Meets all departmental specific competencies.
- Performs housekeeping duties when needed.
- Adheres to dress code and medical center policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Serves as team leader and role model for other staff members.
EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: Associate’s degree in nursing required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. RN license required. CPR required BLS, ACLS, NIHSS EKG, TNCC, PALS required. 2 years experience required, 5 years preferred. Travel Experience Required.
