Job Summary
The Lead Certified Veterinary Technician (Lead CVT) trains, supervises, and assists veterinary support staff to plan, coordinate, and perform a variety of duties concerned with animal health and client education, and to promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical work and administrative detail. This position also encompasses all the duties of the Veterinary Technician.
How you'll make an impact:
- Performs all functions related to Licensed Veterinary Technician job description.
- Work alongside the Practice Manager to purchase pharmaceutical supplies and medications including the maintenance of controlled substance and surgery logs.
- Maintain inventory and maintenance of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations to answer client questions, provide education on vaccines, flea, and heartworm products, and assist in promoting veterinary services from which their pet would benefit, such as a dental cleaning, senior wellness, spay and neuter, and boarding.
- Educate clients and team members on products and medications sold including dietary products and answer questions regarding product purchase/use.
- Assist in all aspects of hospital performance which includes but not limited to answering phones, scheduling appointments, client call backs, prescription requests etc.
- Ensure that the hospital and its team members are compliant with federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA, radiation, state board requirements and DEA. Oversees the ordering of dosimetry badges, tracking and storage.
- Follow and enforce hospital policies set forth by the Practice Manager and Medical Lead.
- Train and assist the veterinary support staff in their performance of a variety of technical and client education duties that facilitate the work of the veterinarians and any team member who directly or indirectly provide patient care.
- Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Mediate interpersonal problems and address concerns from Technicians and veterinary support staff and report to Practice Manager for support.
- Support the Practice Manager in scheduling conflicts and concerns.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to conduct oneself in a confident and professional manner with clients even when situations are stressful and/or focused on individual tasks.
- Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain.
- Ability to give SQ, IM and IV injections.
- Knowledge of usage, dosage, and common side-effects for commonly used prescription medications and preventatives, and ability to readily explain them to the clients.
- Knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states and ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients.
- Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia.
- Writing skills are effective, efficient, and ability to clearly state the objective.
- Computer knowledge required; comfortable with Word, iOS, Windows, practice management software (Pulse by Covetrus), and use of communication tools such as marketing program and email.
- Ability to meet deadlines and exceed expectations.
- Strong communication, leadership, and motivation skills. Can effectively solve problems dealing with team member conflict to personnel issues and performance. Has the ability to direct, guide and assist a group of individuals.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing client and personal services. This includes client needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of client satisfaction.
- Working alongside Practice Manager to address negative feedback on NPS and celebrate positive feedback.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and accept direction on given assignments.
- Perform or oversee routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Knowledge of the procedures used for receiving, treating, and scheduling patients, ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
- Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 36 – 40 per week

Experience:
- Veterinary technician: 3 years (Required)
License/Certification:
