Professional work as a nutritionist, educator, and consultant to the Health Department in matters pertaining to nutrition; and related work as required.
A provisional or permanent license from the State of Louisiana as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (will be verified through the Louisiana Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition website).
AND
EITHER: Permanent status and one (1) year of experience as a Public Health Nutritionist II with the City of New Orleans and one (1) year of professional supervisory experience.
OR: A Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food System Management, or a closely related field and three (3) years of professional experience in the field of Public Health, Program Management or Program Administration. One (1) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
OR: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Nutrition, Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Food System Management, or a closely related field and four (4) years of professional experience in the field of Public Health, Program Management or Program Administration, one (1) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
NOTE: Professional experience is experience gained in a position that required a Bachelor's Degree upon entrance. Civil Service reserves the right to determine what is considered to be professional experience.
A rating of training and experience, weighted 100%. All related previous experience will be considered for qualification purposes; however, credit on the rating of training and experience will only be given for experience gained within the last ten (10) years.
This is an original entrance and promotional examination.
WORKING TEST PERIOD: Effective August 1, 2023, the working test (probationary) period for all positions in the classified service is one year.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE TESTING: The City of New Orleans has a comprehensive program of substance abuse testing. Candidates for employment for certain positions where the health, welfare and/or safety of the public, co-workers and the individual employee is at risk will have to undergo pre-employment substance abuse screening. Candidates for all other original entrance positions will have to undergo an unannounced substance abuse screening during their working test period.
