Title: Medical Assistant - Primary Care Clinic
Location: 8 East 3rd Street (Manhattan)
Position Overview:
The Medical Assistant reports to the Director of Nursing Operations and works to support the provider during patient care in clinics and on the mobile medical vans.
- Medical assistants are embedded in Primary Care Clinics to provide on-site nursing services under the direction of the Assistant Director of Nursing, Primary Care, and the Deputy/Director of Nursing Operations.
- 35-hour week Monday- Friday
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for obtaining vital signs including pain screen and BMI.
- Perform procedures including, but not limited to, EKGs, Hearing and Vision tests, Blood Glucose, etc.
- Assist providers with examinations and chaperoning.
- Perform phlebotomy, lab specimen and CLIA Waive testing processing.
- Prepare and organize supplies in examination rooms, ensuring that supplies are maintained in an organized manner and all necessary instruments are readily available for practitioner’s use.
- Conduct template screenings on all patients (depression screening, sexual health, alcohol, drug, tobacco screenings).
- Participate in weekly clinical meetings with medical staff and shelter case management & administrative staff.
- Travel to cover locations as necessary for coverage.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Credentials/Requirements:
- Experience working with homeless individuals preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Communication: Must have excellent oral and listening skills.
- Interpersonal Skills: Must have the ability to interface with clients as well as all levels of staff.
- Computer Skills: Preferred to have knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel. Electronic medical record experience preferred.
