The North Florida/South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Psychiatry - Substance Use Disorder Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Physician. Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program in Mental Health/Psychiatry leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical Requirements:
- Use of fingers, walking (up to 4 hours), standing (up to 4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
- Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye, hearing (aid permitted).
Job Responsibilities:
The Physician (Psychiatry) - Substance Use Disorder is responsible for diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders, usually through medication. Their duties include:
- Diagnosing and treating substance-use disorders as well as potential coexisting psychiatric disorders (dual diagnosis).
- Providing consultation and working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Recognizing health effects from illicit drugs to properly treat patients.
- Providing virtual care including video and telephone-based care.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with rotating tours of duty as needed.
