The Pharmacy Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist in the health center pharmacy to process, prepare and sell prescriptions to customers. He/she will also provide support for other aspects of the pharmacy operations as allowed by his/her Pharmacy Technician license.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supports and implements the organization’s vision, mission and value.
- Determines priorities and method of completing daily workload to ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely manner.
- Performs all job functions in a professional and courteous manner, including answering all general phone calls timely.
- Provides excellent customer service to internal and external customers by being responsive to all inquiries in a timely manner.
- Fosters and promotes a culture of service excellence and accountability.
- Processes prescriptions as ordered by GCH’s providers, using GCH pharmacy software, including troubleshooting prescriptions when errors or issues are suspected.
- Retrieves patient information in GCH’s electronic medical record (EMR) for maintaining patient’s profiles, requesting medication refills, or messaging providers with medication-related questions.
- Under direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist (RPH), may perform packaging, manipulative, repetitive, and other non-discretionary tasks, including removing drugs from stock, counting, pouring, or mixing pharmaceuticals.
- Follows error prevention steps as indicated by RPH and double-checks all medications prepared against the original prescription order to ensure patient safety.
- Assists with procurement and inventory management including but not limited to: verifying shipments received and stocking shelves, organizing inventory and alerting RPH to any shortages.
- Processes patient applications for Patient Assistance Programs.
- Works appropriate hours to minimize patient wait times.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
- Valid Pharmacy Technician license from the California Board of Pharmacy.
- Current CPR certificate.
Preferred:
- Pharmacy Technician Board Certification.
- At least 6-12 months experience working in a retail or community pharmacy.
- Knowledge of Spanish, Armenian, or Korean language.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrates working knowledge of current drug forms, dosage strength, generic and trade name equivalents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws/regulations regarding the provision of pharmaceutical services.
- Demonstrates knowledge of 340B Drug Pricing Program.
- Demonstrates ability to read, understand, and transcribe prescription information. Ability to type prescription label.
- Maintains active licensure.
- Performs work to level of and within defined scope of practice per licensure.
- Performs work in adherence to company’s policies and procedures.
- Maintains HIPAA, Medicare Fraud and Waste training certifications.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work with minimum supervision.
