This is an Ultrasound Technologist training program, in which the incumbent learns and performs the clinical rotations under the direction and supervision of a training instructor within an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Incumbent is enrolled in a program and is expected to complete training curriculum, specified clinical rotations and specific hours of on-the-job training designated by the program. The Trainee performs a variety of indirect or direct patient care duties. Upon completion of the program, the trainee must successfully pass the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Sonography Principals and Instrumentation (SPI) examination. Upon successful completion of the training program and ARDMS certification, the Trainee will transition into an Ultrasound Technologist role and agree to a 2-year work commitment with WVU Medicine. Approved costs of the program will be covered by WVU Medicine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Must enroll and be accepted into an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
- High school diploma or equivalent
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire

- Hospital patient care work experience

- Complete all coursework associated with the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
- Conduct all clinical duties in conjunction with the program curriculum
- Commits to the schedule outlined during orientation
- Completes face-to-face clinical instruction and clinical rotations as necessary

- Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy loaded carts.
- Possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity along with manual dexterity and technical ability.
- Must be able to work while wearing personal protective gear. Able to wear lead aprons for extended periods of time.
