Essential Job Functions:
- Human cadaveric dissection to include regions as directed by College requirements.
- Performs daily inspections of cadaveric specimens to control mold, excessive drying and/or other detrimental environmental conditions.
- Assists students to locate and identify anatomical structures.
- Maintains lab and common areas, equipment and instruments in a clean, organized, and safe condition including daily and end of semester cleaning.
- Performs general maintenance of gross dissection laboratory cadavers, skeletons, specimens, and equipment.
- Observes safety precautions and wears appropriate personal protective equipment as required.
- Follows all NSU policies and procedures for proper laboratory behavior, handling, storage, and use of cadavers.
- Sets up laboratory for courses and exams.
- Proctors anatomy course exams.
- Completes all mandatory training.
- Performs other job duties as assigned or required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of human anatomy and dissection procedures.
- Working knowledge of gross anatomy and histology laboratory processes, equipment, and facilities.
- Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures.
- Safely operate and utilize dissection instruments, including sharp objects.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty and students.
- Good personal communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must take initiative, be organized, and manage multiple priorities.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with course directors and lab staff.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Job Requirements:
- Self-motivated, proactive, punctual, and reliable.
- May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing.
- Ability to perform acute repetitive motions during shift.
- Manual dexterity with dissection instruments and power tools.
- Open-toed shoes and food/drink are not permitted.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by NSU and must be worn.
- May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Able to lift 50 pounds and team-lift bodies weighing up to 300 pounds.
- Exposed to certain chemical-related substances in the anatomy lab.
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Anatomy, Biological Science, or related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience working in a laboratory environment, anatomical dissection centered.
