Job Description - Research Assistant I BWH Neurology CART (3291252)
The Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment is looking for a highly motivated and organized full-time employee to lead recruitment and outreach efforts, aimed at promoting research awareness and participation, primarily in communities historically underrepresented in clinical research, including the Spanish speaking community, as well as from local clinics. The incumbent will be responsible for several tasks related to recruitment, including (but not limited to): memory screenings, connecting with potential community organizations to help build sustainable relationships, and building rapport with potential research participants including clinic patients and their family members. Shifts will include periodic evening and/or weekend hours contingent on outreach and recruitment programming. The incumbent will be expected to work on site three days a week and the other two days will be offsite. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment (~40%)
• Communicate the mission and objectives of the Center for Alzheimer Research and Treatment (CART) to potential participants and their families, and articulate how our mission can benefit the community.
• Responsible for completing telephone screens for potential participants, following up and ensuring each record is closed with an outcome in a timely manner.
• Responsible for conducting phone-based memory screens, including scheduling, following up, and referring appropriately.
• Working closely with the clinical team, responsible for obtaining medical record release forms and medical records in a timely manner. Maintain clear and consistent communication with clinical research operations team, including head nurse and study coordinator and all other relevant stakeholders.
• Other recruitment-related duties as assigned.
Outreach and Engagement (~40%)
• Regularly participate in engagement/outreach activities including, but not limited to:
o Engaging with patients at program tables at hospitals and community health centers.
o Represent CART at community-based events in the Greater Boston area, discuss research opportunities with those who express interest, schedule follow-up phone calls.
o Discussing research opportunities with patients in a clinical setting.
o Assist with setting up advertisement campaigns for outreach events.
• Ensure patient-facing materials are up to date and prepared for any outreach events.
• Will assist the team with content creation and communications for CART website and social media accounts.
• Other outreach-related duties as requested.
Data Management (~20%)
• Maintain detailed documentation regarding all prescreening and recruitment activity.
• Document and track details of outreach & engagement events and activities, allowing our center to create a more data-driven approach to outreach and recruitment.
• Working closely with the Director of Recruitment, present metrics and analysis of recruitment efforts at recruitment and quarterly team meetings.
• Other recruitment data-related duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• College degree required.
• No experience required.
• Preferred Experience:
o Social media training and experience
o Spanish fluency strongly preferred
SKILLS:
• Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to interact with a variety of people, including older adults with and without cognitive impairment, both in-person and on the telephone.
• High level of responsibility and discipline.
• Willing to work with diverse and multicultural populations.
• High level of organization with attention to detail.
• High level of discretion, as some studies involve highly sensitive and private information.
• Ability to follow directions and protocol requirements.
• Well-developed computer skills.
• Comfort and/or experience with older participants and dementia patients is a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Office at 60 Fenwood Road, Boston, and clinic environment, off-site environments such as health fairs, community centers and clinics, or home.
