Job Summary
To provide anesthesia and pain management for equine and farm species within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide anesthesia and pain management for equine and farm animal patients.
- Oversee large animal anesthesia operations, collaborating with anesthesiologist, Veterinary Technician Specialists Anesthesia and certified veterinary technicians.
- Deliver hands-on case management and clinical instruction to veterinary students, residents, interns, and veterinary technicians during patient case management.
- Participate in the on-call after-hours anesthesia service on a rotational basis.
Additional Physical Demands
An environment of stress may be anticipated. An ability to work in the presence of animal waste and fluids will be necessary. To some degree, unpleasantness may be experienced under such conditions. The handling of any animal presents some element of risk or injury. Persons allergic to animal dander, dust, pollen, hay, etc., may experience discomfort in this position. Work involving animals with various disease states may expose the individual to viral, bacterial, and fungal agents known to be zoonotic. Laboratory work may expose the individual to chemicals, anesthetic waste, biohazards, radioisotopes, and laser light; all of which may be potentially hazardous if mishandled or misused.
Minimum Qualifications
DVM or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
1 year of clinical experience preferred. Ability to be on call and work holidays and weekends.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and comfort in handling equine and farm animal patients.
- Strong interest in anesthesia and pain management.
- Successful applicant will have extensive large animal anesthesia training on the job with the support of veterinary anesthesiologists.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible. The budgeted salary range for the position is $105,000 to $115,000. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position.
