The Ohio Department of Health supports a hybrid teleworking model. This position may work a hybrid schedule at the discretion of the manager or supervisor, which will require occasional attendance in the office for training, meetings, and other operational needs. Employees must reside within a reasonable distance to their assigned headquarters for compliance with workplace reporting requirements.
The goal of the Bureau of Infectious Diseases (BID) is to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases. The bureau works closely with local health departments, healthcare providers, and laboratories to ensure that infectious disease reports are reviewed and investigated timely; the program provides technical expertise and coordination to LHDs, healthcare providers, laboratories, and where appropriate, the general public.
Job Duties
What You'll Do:
The Bureau of Infectious Diseases (BID) is seeking an experienced Epidemiologist to join the Healthcare-Associated Infections/Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program. This position will investigate and support activities related to HAIs, AR organisms, and other emerging pathogens/infectious diseases. Additional duties may include:
- Investigate endemic or epidemic situations of HAI & AR organisms through in-house or onsite visits, data collection, epidemiologic studies, and appropriate statistical analysis & methods using computer software packages.
- Act as lead worker (i.e., provide work direction & training) for other HAI/AR epidemiology staff.
- Review confidential case & suspect case reports for accuracy and completeness and assist with completing required program reporting.
- Facilitate electronic transfer of HAI/AR case data to Centers for Disease Control (CDC) via Health Level 7 (HL7) messaging.
- Act as the primary contact for HAI/AR case management & participate in electronic & paper transmission of data between ODH and clinics, CDC, and among relevant surveillance programs at ODH.

Qualifications
Completion of graduate core program in public health or preventive medicine; 3 courses or 9 months of experience in the use of statistical computer software packages; 6 months of experience as an epidemiology investigator with a local or federal health agency; must be able to provide own transportation.
OR
6 months of experience as Epidemiology Investigator 2, 65762; must be able to provide own transportation.
OR
Equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

- Graduate or advanced degree in public health or preventive medicine
- Two or more courses in epidemiology or biostatistics
- Experience interpreting and conducting statistical analysis of health-related data
- Experience with an infectious disease surveillance program
- Experience in statistical software (e.g., SAS, STATA, or SPSS)
- Experience working with a statewide health/disease reporting system (e.g., ODRS)
- Experience in program evaluation reporting at the local or state level
- Experience as lead worker

Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 33, Step 1 of the OCSEA Pay Range Schedule ($32.08 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($33.64) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
