Job Description:
The Psychiatric Nurse Manager will practice psychiatric-mental health nursing, providing clinical supervision to LPNs, RNs, charge nurses, and non-licensed nursing staff in the holistic care and treatment of patients, addressing both psychiatric and medical needs. Responsibilities include assisting with hiring and onboarding within the nursing department and functioning as a liaison with educational institutions to coordinate student tours and practicum placements.
This professional nurse shall possess specialized knowledge, skills, and abilities obtained through education and experience in caring for individuals with behavioral health needs, psychiatric disorders, and co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.
Expectations include participation in assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, health teaching, and health promotion for a unique patient population. Key functions of psychiatric-mental health nursing care include individual and group counseling, as well as safety management of the therapeutic milieu in a secure forensic facility. The role also involves providing counseling interventions such as communication and interviewing techniques, problem-solving activities, crisis intervention, stress management, supportive skill building, educational groups, relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, and conflict resolution.
