Director of Nursing
SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE
The Nurse Manager, as part of an interdisciplinary team, is responsible for ensuring coordinated delivery of patient care in accordance with established standards of care, mental health practice, hospital policy, goals and objectives. The Nurse Manager will assist in contributing to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational and Performance Improvement requirements as well as efforts, while providing supervision to the nursing staff. Maintain an ongoing working and respective relationship with fellow employees.
All employees are expected to be pleasant, respectful, and courteous in all interactions with patients, families, staff, and visitors of the Hospital, as well as being a positive representative of INBH at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduated from an accredited school of professional nursing
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience, including management/supervision experience in an acute psychiatric health-care facility.
- Appropriate state licensure
- Successful completion BLS, Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR), Handle with Care, and Verbal De-escalation certifications, provided by INBH.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in nursing

SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
All functions are essential functions unless otherwise noted. The job functions of this position are not limited to the duties listed below.
- Perform personnel management duties including screening and selection of designated staff, providing department orientation and training, schedule management, completing performance evaluations, addressing performance issues, and managing timekeeping, all while working closely with Human Resources.
- Assists in ensuring that all the staff members deliver care in accordance with the Nursing Standards of Care and Practice.
- Implements new policies and procedures, acts as a resource to the staff.
- Responsible for unit compliance with The Joint Commission CMS, state regulatory standards, and patient rights standards.
- Ensures that communication between AOC, Administrative Supervisors, and nursing staff is ongoing regarding information necessary to ensure patient safety and ongoing care.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates staffing schedules in accordance with acuity levels and fluctuating census. Coordinates staffing needs with the Staffing Scheduler.
- Coordinates, maintains, and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment planning offered by nursing services.
- Ensures Infection Control, Safety and Risk Management policies are consistently implemented and followed.
- Evaluates the quality of nursing care delivered, identifies areas requiring improvement.
- Assists in developing department and unit-specific competencies specific for each position.
