Summary: Functions as the Surgical Technologist First Assist, may harvest the conduit(s) used for grafting in Cardiac Surgery and first assist the surgeon in performing surgery.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Minimum two years experience as surgical technologist first assistant.
- Certification from an approved First Assistant Credentialing Program and endorsed by the Liaison of Surgical Technologists.
- Work with complex monitoring and life support equipment.
- Able to perform in cardiac service.
- Reads, writes, and speaks English.
- Practice knowledge of standard precautions and sterile technique.
- Knowledgeable of age-specific physiological/psychosocial/developmental/spiritual needs of patients served.
- Self-directed to learn and achieve unit objectives.
- Must tolerate long hours and be able to work variable shifts.
- Much standing, walking, bending, lifting, transferring of anesthetized patients, and pushing of heavy carts, stretchers, and equipment.
- Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination.
- Visual and auditory acuity required.
- Position involves skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material.
