The Weekend Nurse Manager (RN) supervises the day-to-day activities on assigned units. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. This position must work weekends, and can be part time, weekends only, or full time with additional shifts during the week.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise nursing care provided by the nursing staff and others for whom they are administratively or professionally responsible.
- Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
- Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of resident care.
- Meet with the nursing staff and support staff in planning the department's services, programs, and activities.
- Assist with resident admissions, discharges, and transfers as required.
- Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, care plans, charting, etc., as necessary.
- Ensure that a sufficient number of licensed nurses (RN and LPN), and certified nursing assistants are available for each shift to ensure routine nursing care is provided to meet the daily nursing care needs of each resident.
- Provide direct nursing care as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a current Michigan license to practice as a registered nurse (RN), and must have a current CPR certification.
- Must have, as a minimum, 1 year of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility. Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
- Demonstrate the knowledge of basic nursing practice with an interest in gerontological nursing; prefer two years experience in a long-term care setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and through written reports and other documents relating to residents, staff, and others.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from residents, physicians, family members, staff members, and state surveyors.
- Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
