Company Description
Are you a boarded or recently boarded surgeon who is looking to put roots down in a beautiful area where your dollars go further? Do you have great people skills as well as surgical skills? Is your mindset one of growth where you are looking to challenge yourself and those around you? Are you able to cut both soft tissue and orthopedic cases? If so, please read on. We think we have a role that you might enjoy.
About Us
We are a rapidly growing Emergency and Specialty Service. We believe that animals and vets deserve the best chance at a happy, healthy life and our service allows both groups to thrive. We’re looking for other people who believe and want the same thing as we do and can help us keep this service running to the high standard we’ve set for ourselves and now develop our surgical service alongside our other disciplines.
We were founded over 20 years ago as a collective of the Roanoke area’s veterinarians to be able to offer after hours emergency service to their clients. We have evolved into a 24-hour emergency and critical care service facility. Since then we have continued to work closely with our referring practices and the local community.
While the care of animals is important, we also recognize that we can’t do that if we don’t care for our people too. So, we’ve built a practice based on the following values:
- Being kind to ourselves and others.
- Respect for medicine and relationships.
- Being honest and open in our dealings with those around us.
- Having attention to detail because sometimes it’s this that unlocks a case or makes a client or teammate’s day.
- Doing what we say we’ll do because acting with integrity is never the wrong move.
- Honoring our teammates because we know that without a shared bond of trust, our jobs get ten times harder.
- Making the conscious choice to show up each day and make the practice a positive and energizing place to be.
- Having fun.
Your mental health and professional development are also extremely important, so you can expect us to cater to these things in the form of support and generous CE budget.

- Taking over cases referred internally by our ER team.
- Accepting emergencies from referring veterinarians on an as needed basis.
- Surgery on soft tissue and orthopedic cases.
- Giving advice, training and mentorship to our team and also our referring vets from time to time.
- Generating reports & invoicing for your work.

About the Area
Roanoke is a smaller town with a lot of big-city amenities which means the standard of life compared to the cost of living is very favorable. We have a great indoor arena offering a professional hockey team, Broadway shows and nationally known talent. We have opera and symphony. We have numerous indoor and outdoor music festivals in town and nearby. Because we are based in the heart of the Blue Ridge, Roanoke has become something of a mountain bike mecca. There are other opportunities for the outdoor lover including hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and SUP. College Sports fans can cheer the Hokies on at Virginia Tech, cheer for the Cavaliers at UVA or cheer on the Liberty Flames. If you are into food and drink, we have multiple micro-breweries, great local restaurants and numerous wineries as well.
All in all, Roanoke is a great place for paying down your loans, having fun or bringing up your family.

About You:
You’ll be a boarded surgeon with an easy going, even-tempered disposition. We have a ready-made caseload, but it will need some leg work to get it going, so we need you to be happy to help build this up with some lunch and learns or evening CE sessions to help people learn who you are and what to refer to you. However, with a referral network of more than 30 practices to our ER, we have a massive caseload ready to go. You’ll be the sort of person who loves to solve problems, learn and grow personally and professionally, and you’ll have a desire to help others do this too. You’ll have strong communication skills such that clients and team members love working with you.
