Title: Barn Hand - Equestrian Center
Supervisor: Director of the Equestrian Center
FLSA Designation: Non-Exempt
Calendar: 12 month
General Summary
The Barn Hand is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment at the Boston Equestrian Center on our campus in Owings Mills, MD. This position will also complete basic horse care and assist with horse shows as needed.
McDonogh School operates one of the finest riding programs in the area and the facilities include indoor and outdoor competition rings, 40 acres of turnout including 25 paddocks with private turnouts, a 70 stall barn and a 50 stall competition stabling building, and a 3 bay auxiliary supply building.

Essential Functions
- Ensure that stalls, barn aisles, and water barrels are clean and well maintained.
- Turn in / turn out horses, feed and water horses if assistance is needed.
- Add shavings and apply blankets.
- Perform routine maintenance of fencing, landscaping and weed control.
- Drag and water rings as needed / daily.
- Move and place jumps as requested - paint and maintain jumps as needed.
- Support trainers as needed.
Additional Experience
- Must have prior barn/farm experience.
- Must have working knowledge and ability to operate relevant equipment and small size farm machinery safely and effectively.
- The preferred candidate will have knowledge and ability to restore fields.
Additional Requirements
- 2-3 years of experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to organize time, handle multiple priorities and deadlines, be self-motivated, and work successfully as an individual and as part of a team.
- High level of maturity, confidentiality, and assertiveness.
- Must be able to comply with background checks, including fingerprints, as required by the agency and/or state regulations.

Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours are required. Lifting and carrying of 50 pounds or more is typical. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, bending, balancing, squatting, reaching, and grasping. Pulling, pushing, working in humid conditions, working in outside weather conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, and working with moderate to loud noise levels.
