Position Summary
The Family Nurse Practitioner will deliver a broad range of general diagnostic and therapeutic primary and/or behavioral health services to adolescent, adult, and geriatric clients with mental illness, chemical dependency, dual diagnosis depending on the nurse practitioner’s areas of specialization and experience. The practitioner provides teaching for the patient and family to the health status utilizing additional resources as needed and makes appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies. He/She will prescribe pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies as needed and provide the relevant patient education related to these prescriptions. All practices will be provided under the direction of the Medical Director based on the signed Collaborative Practice Agreement.
Essential Functions
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supports and adheres to the Organization’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Responsible for the examination, diagnosis, and treatment within the Nurse Practitioner’s competencies.
- Will offer supervision and consultation to other staff members. This includes regular staffing of evaluations performed by clinical staff of the Family Health Center.
- Maintains medical staff privileges. Demonstrates professional growth and participates in continuing education to satisfy Family Health Center and professional requirements.
- Attends and participates in department meetings, medical staff committees, quality improvement committees and supervision with the FHC Medical Director.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Graduation from an accredited Advance Nurse Practitioner (ANP) School of Nursing, and completion of an approved residency program.
- Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Indiana.
- License and Certification as stated in Bylaws. Registered Nurse license from Indiana State Board of Nursing. Nurse Practitioner authorization from the Indiana Health Professional Bureau.
Interpersonal Skills: Diplomacy, tactfulness, negotiation, written and verbal communication skills and effective problem-solving skills.
Essential Physical Skills: Sufficient stamina and mobility to provide direct patient care, i.e., must be able to bend, squat, twist and lift numerous times per day.
Essential Mental Abilities: Ability to assess, collect, record, and interpret data. Ability to calculate medication dosages. Proficient in the care of all age groups according to Erickson’s “Life Cycle” stage 1-8.
Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to visually assess clinical practice and patient conditions and to communicate with patients, co-workers, staff, physicians, students, and patient’s families. Auditory ability to assess patients.
