Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a collaborative physician, physician site leader, and practice manager, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides medical care to patients within a detailed scope of practice. Within the ambulatory care setting, the PA completes physicals; orders diagnostic and therapeutic modalities such as laboratory, x-ray, EKG, etc.; performs therapeutic procedures like injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management; prescribes medications; instructs and educates patients and their families in proper healthcare, illness prevention, and home care; and documents in the patient chart progress notes, orders, etc.

- Patient Examinations and Treatment: Performs and records complete physical examinations, analyzes data, formulates care plans, evaluates and treats acute minor illnesses and traumas, and may assist with procedures under review.
- Orders Diagnostic and Therapeutic Modalities: Orders tests and procedures in consultation with the collaborative physician.
- Prescribes Medication: Prescribes medications under scope of practice with collaborative physician oversight.
- Patient and Family Education: Instructs patients and families in healthcare, illness prevention, and home care.
- Hospital Daily Rounds: May make daily rounds of hospitalized patients under supervision, contribute to care discussions, and provide consultation.
- Patient Documentation: Ensures appropriate documentation of patient-related information in the medical chart.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an approved school for Physician Assistants.
- National certification as Physician Assistant in applicable specialty required.
- Current state licensure in good standing as Physician Assistant.
- Current CPR certification must be maintained (BLS).
- Minimum 1-2 years working as Physician Assistant in the relevant specialty.
- Service Orientation, Age and Cultural Specific Care, Organization, Verbal Communication, Decision Making, Adaptability, Team Work, and Computer Proficiency.
