UNM Medical Group, Inc. is hiring for a Forensic Pathologist Staff Physician to join our School of Medicine team at UNM. This is a PRN opportunity located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Summary
Under indirect supervision, provides and manages direct health care for a specified patient population.
Minimum Job Requirements of an Forensic Pathologist Staff Physician:
Medical doctor with 3 to 5 years of directly related experience which may include residency in a directly related medical specialty. State of New Mexico and Federal DEA Certification; Medical Specialty License or Certification; Board Certified or Board Eligible in specified area of medical specialty. Verification of education and licensure (if applicable) will be required if selected for hire.
Duties and Responsibilities of a Forensic Pathologist Staff Physician:
- Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services in area of medical expertise.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.

About the Forensic Pathology Team with UNM School of Medicine:
As a nationally accredited program with a strong educational component in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring across the state of New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification.
OMI is currently looking for a Forensic Pathologists to join our team. Our ideal candidate will have board certification as a forensic pathologist and be currently licensed in the State of New Mexico to complete complex external and full autopsy. At the OMI we use CT scans to evaluate cases and would like a candidate that is familiar with this diagnostic process. Our ideal candidate will have a high degree of professionalism and be able to complete cases according to our NAME accreditation standards. We are looking for someone familiar with giving court testimony and deposition. We work everyday but Christmas and on-call hours will be required.
