SEMRHI is a network of Community Health Centers serving the medical needs of Southeast Mississippi residents for almost 45 years. This position will work in our Women's Health Center in Hattiesburg.
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the RN Nurse Manager, the Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to assist providers in diagnosing various medical conditions. The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative. The Ultrasound Technologist demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with staff, patients, families and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Reviews patient's medical history and providers instructions.
- Effectively prepares equipment for procedure and selects appropriate equipment settings.
- Accurately explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.
- Accurately directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
- Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body to be interpreted by a provider.
- Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones.
- Consistently selects the appropriate images to show to the provider for diagnostic purposes.
- Accurately takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the providers.
- Accurately maintain patient records in the electronic health records
- Accurately adjusts and maintains ultrasound equipment.
- Demonstrate flexibility in job duties
- Effectively communicates with the provider and other staff
- Adheres to infection-control policies using universal precautions and PPE as required
- Understand the importance of patient confidentiality
- Performs related work, as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in sonography from accredited school
- ARRT/RDMS Certification(s)
- One to two years on the job experience as an ultrasound technologist is preferred.
- Knowledge of safety, infection control, and quality improvement practices.
- Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in user-friendly manner.
- Ability to calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.
- Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screen
- Must occasionally kneel, twist and have ability to grasp firmly
- Must lift and carry, push and pull in excess of 50lbs
