Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust is a large Acute Foundation Trust, renowned for providing a wide range of imaging services to a population exceeding 880,000. The CT department is experiencing requests for new services with a strategic plan for expansion to align with the Trust vision and five-year plan. This will result in an increase in the service provision to provide a much-improved environment for patient care, diagnosis and treatment. This will include the implementation of the regions Community Diagnostic Centre, of which there will be four new Canon CT scanners, one of which will have Cardiac CT capabilities. This will be a state-of-the-art Centre with diagnostics increasing their outpatient capacity significantly, this is due to open in February 2025.
The Trust is Head of the Clinical Research Network for the Eastern Region and has one of the three national Radiology Academies.

Main duties of the job
Applicants will contribute and work within the CT Team to deliver high quality diagnostic imaging to all service users, ensuring clinical safety and facilitating a high standard of patient care. The post requires a flexible and enthusiastic radiographer to join our friendly team working 12.5-hour shifts providing a 24/7 CT service.
The QSI accredited Radiology Department strives to provide patient focused services within a framework of quality and innovation, and staff development. Our approach to service and staff development has an excellent and proven track record, attaining national awards for Advanced Practitioner development in cardiac imaging.
The Computed Tomography (CT) Department has five scanners; Siemens Drive and Edge+, newly installed in 2021, Siemens Flash, a Siemens X.Cite, and GE Optima 660 Scanner, providing imaging to over 40,000 patients per year. Our Siemens Flash scanner is due to be upgraded in January 2024, in line with the National Asset Replacement Program. Working within CT provides opportunities to gain excellent experience in a wide range of CT imaging procedures including trauma, MSK, neurological, vascular, perfusion scanning, paediatric, and oncology. Significant growth within interventional, therapeutic CT and cardiac imaging offers a wide scope for personal development.
Job responsibilities
- Take part in the training of undergraduates, postgraduates, including medical staff, medical students and radiographic assistants in CT. Where necessary organising their training sessions, induction and providing tutorials. Act as a clinical supervisor and/or assessor when appointed to this role.
- Management of the day to day working of the department and take responsibility for their own work area, prioritising own workload incorporating the training needs of other staff. This will include rearranging staff at short notice when necessary. Be responsible for arranging the workload of the CT Department, including prioritising the inpatient workload based on clinical priority.
- Communicate effectively with the Modality Team Lead, Consultant Radiologists, clinical staff and radiology assistant staff regarding operational and clinical issues.
- To demonstrate a specialist skill in adapting technique to achieve high quality diagnostic products in patients whose condition would otherwise prevent this, without compromising care, this involves frequent dealing with patients who are in pain and distress.
- Perform CT examinations either in person or as part of the team, maintaining high professional standards and supporting and monitoring the quality standards of the directorate. This will include the cannulation of patients and the use of the CT Injector to inject contrast media.
- To ensure own technical standards of CT are up to date and evidence based, attend relevant courses, clinical meetings, study days and show evidence of Continued Professional Development. Fulfil mandatory training requirements, in-service and staff development training and take part in the annual appraisal system.
- To ensure a high standard of professionalism and patient care within their work area. This includes appropriate communication with patients providing reassurance and obtaining the patients confidence and co-operation to obtain the required diagnostic images.
- To participate in the extended working day, night shift and bank holiday rota as appropriate. To be flexible with shift patterns in view of staffing levels and training needs.
- Act as a highly specialised resource for developing new imaging techniques and adapting these to the needs of the clinician.
- Comply with all relevant Trust policies and procedures.
- Report all incidents or accidents involving patients, visitors or staff and, complete accurate statements and reports.

- Diploma/Degree of College of Radiographer
- Current HCPC registered
Experience
- Appropriate knowledge must be up to date and underpinned by theoretical and practical experience
Skills
- Ability to train other members of staff including all clinical staff at undergraduate & postgraduate levels
- Knowledge of contrast media, its effects and adverse reactions and contra-indications
