GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Gastroenterology Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner shall assist and supplement the Gastroenterologist Physician staff by rounding on inpatients to assess, diagnose, and treat patients as enabled by their training and experience under the supervision and support of the Gastroenterologist Physician. These responsibilities will include caring for Gastroenterology inpatients, responding to calls from the nursing staff, assessing changes in condition, responding to changes in condition, ordering tests and images, interpreting tests and images, and ordering medications. The Gastroenterology Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will also prepare discharges of patients and will prepare appropriate prescriptions, prepare discharge summaries, arrange follow-up appointments, and educate patients and families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of physician assistant education program approved by the American Medical Association.
- Current license as a Registered Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
- Current or eligible for NYS DEA license.
- Understanding and commitment to CVPH core values of teamwork, confidentiality, and quality care.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Expertise in clearly communicating medical information to professional practitioners and the general public. Knowledge of OSHA standards/regulations.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively at all times including emergency situations.
- Legible handwriting. Above-average spelling and memory skills.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients, and external customers.
- Maintain confidentiality and support the goals and objectives of CVPH.
- Utilize available business technology to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to make appropriate decisions with a minimum amount of supervisory direction.
- Desire to remain current on emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches as they relate to plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery.
- Ability to obtain appropriate privileges at CVPH Medical Center.
- Ability to obtain credentialing by third-party payers to enable third-party billing.
- Current CPR certification.
- Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
- Prior PA/NP Gastroenterology experience or training preferred. ACLS required within 6 months.
- Prescription privileges preferred.
- As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
