Salary: $5,258 to $6,399 per month (SR-22, Step D to I).

Plans, organizes, supervises and coordinates the recreational therapy and allied services of a health institution, and participates in recreational therapy and allied services; and performs other related duties as assigned.
The working supervisory level in the Recreational Therapist Series reflects the fully trained and experienced Recreational Therapist who spends a significant portion of the work time in direct performance of work typical of the class Recreational Therapist III and concurrently has full technical and administrative responsibility for the recreational therapy program of an institution and supervision of a small staff. The work also involves responsibility for allied services including leisure recreation, community relations, volunteer recreational services, and recreational in-service training for other agencies and personnel. The work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative position.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Legal Authorization to Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in recreation, physical education, special education, psychology or sociology which included a minimum of twelve (12) semester credit hours in recreation or therapy oriented areas of study; such as, community recreation, physical fitness, gross motor skills, human growth and development, human personality and behavior, and/or abnormal psychology.
Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible professional work experience in a recreational therapy program which, along with other therapy programs, provided comprehensive treatment and rehabilitative services to persons with physical, mental, emotional and developmental disabilities, psychosocial disorders, substance abuse problems, and/or the elderly. At least one year of the Specialized Experience must have been comparable to the Recreational Therapist III.
At the journey worker (independent) level, the Recreational Therapist III performs the full range of work assignments in recreational therapy; independently develops and carries out therapeutic recreational treatment plans; actively participates in interdisciplinary team meetings; conducts therapeutic recreational and leisure activities; observes, evaluates and reports on the condition and progress of patients; and performs other related duties as assigned.
