Under general supervision, perform routine clinical molecular diagnostic testing procedures. Perform specialized techniques such as immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry related to the processing of specimens for clinical purposes. Participate in the development and implementation of new clinical molecular diagnostic testing procedures and clinical trial tests.
Perform any necessary pre-treatment of cytogenetic samples to facilitate testing (e.g. pre-treatment of FFPE slides for FISH, CD138 enrichment of plasma cells, etc.). Perform specialized techniques such as Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) testing related to the processing of specimens for clinical purposes. Develop specimen preparation techniques under general supervision when necessary. Perform all pre-analytic steps for FISH testing and DNA-based or RNA-based assays, and nucleic acid extraction for DNA-based or RNA-based assays.
Perform quality control, quality assurance and proficiency testing in both laboratories. Participate in CEU activities sufficient to maintain licensure. Participate in assay/instrument validations and Quality Initiatives.
Conduct chromosomal analysis and perform karyotyping; involving the accurate identification of chromosomes and description of structural and/or numerical chromosome abnormalities, and the proper recording of this data, either manually or digitally. May perform analysis of FISH samples, either manually or digitally.
Salary range: $28.75 - $31.25
Minimum Requirements: Licensed as a Medical Laboratory Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist in one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist in at least one of the specialty areas to which the position is allocated, molecular and/or cytogenetics and/or histology, and for which the laboratory is licensed under Chapter 483, Florida Statutes.
- Licensed as a Histology Technologist with 2+ years of hands-on research or clinical diagnostic experience in advanced molecular diagnostic and/or histological techniques – particularly associated instrument platforms.
Skills:
- Ability to use problem solving techniques in the laboratory.
- Ability to communicate with other technologists and supervisors.
- Ability to collect and analyze data.
- Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures for clinical testing.
