Job Responsibilities
As a Home Care Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering the highest quality patient care according to the specific orders of each patient’s individual physician. This is a perfect opportunity for you to expand on any pediatric or home care experience that you may have while making a positive and much-needed difference in the lives of children and their families.
Your specific duties will tend to include the following:
- Assessments
- Medication administration
- Administration of prescribed treatments and therapies
- Communication with other members of the patients' multi-disciplinary team
- Supply management
- Emergency management
- Coordination of care
- Health promotion and teaching
- Training of family members
Qualifications
As a Home Care Nurse, you must be a confident and empathetic caregiver, ideally with a background in pediatric home care. You must exhibit excellent judgment, critical thinking, and reasoning skills as well as the adaptability necessary to fulfill the needs of and maintain the boundaries required by each family. It is also important that you have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, along with a firm dedication to customer service.
Specific qualifications for the role include:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing from a state accredited LPN or RN program
- Current and unrestricted LPN or RN license to practice in the state for which you are applying
- Current CPR certification
- Current Continuing Education if required by state
- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation and compliance with nursing care and policies and procedures
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
Physical requirements include:
- Frequent lifting and repositioning of patients
- Repeated or prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, twisting, and occasional climbing of stairs
- Acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of touch, smell, and taste
- Agility and strength sufficient to handle patients and equipment without assistance
- Ability to appropriately respond physically and psychologically to emergency situations in the home or during transport
- Ability to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other health conditions
