Job overview
Our friendly and experienced team are delighted to invite applications for a highly motivated and committed Band 8a Clinical Psychologist to join the Adult Autism Diagnosis Service in Suffolk (ADSS). ADSS assesses adults aged 18+ across the whole of Suffolk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It is an exciting time to be joining us as we develop our service alongside nationally changing perceptions and awareness of ASD. Working alongside a senior clinical psychologist and an MDT with backgrounds in mental health nursing, social work and speech and language therapy, the successful applicant will have an opportunity to be part of a team with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
Applications from newly qualified psychologists will be considered at Band 7.
Main duties of the job
Working across Suffolk you will be part of a highly specialist ASD assessment service. You will be expected to:
- Work as an autonomous highly skilled practitioner carrying out specialised assessments of ASD.
- Provide advice and consultation to other clinical staff within the team and with our colleagues within other Trust services.
- Contribute and lead formulations taking into account additional complexities such as mental health, attachment, mild learning disability, or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Work alongside the senior Clinical Psychologist to be involved in ongoing service development and in shaping service innovations.
- Clinically supervise and manage the workloads of assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists within the service as required.
- Contribute towards the continuing professional development, training, advising and supporting the Multi-disciplinary team as appropriate.
This post is 0.6 WTE with flexibility around the hours and days worked.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Post-graduate degree in clinical psychology, accredited by BPS
- Registered as a practitioner psychologist with the Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
- Ongoing further specialist training/accredited short courses
- Supervisor training, to be supervisor of doctoral programme clinical psychology trainees or willing to undertake training
Experience
- Experience of working with a wide variety and severity of client groups and clinical problems.
- Experience working as a qualified clinical psychologist (Band 7) and able to evidence appropriate knowledge and experience in practice.
- Experience of working with a range of complex and challenging behaviours.
- Experience of supervision and teaching.
- Experience of clinical work in a relevant setting.
- Experience of representing psychology within MDT setting.
Skills
- Skilled in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
- Skills in consultation to professional and non-professional groups.
- Skills in creating and delivering presentations and training programmes.
- Skills in neuropsychological assessment.
Knowledge
- Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology.
- Knowledge of mental health legislation within specialist clinical context.
Other
- Able to identify, provide and promote appropriate support strategies to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations.
- Ability to travel independently.
- Experience of working within a multicultural framework.
- Experience of providing specific support intervention and strategy for staff.
