Job Summary
Working directly with Intensivists to provide care to a specific patient population within the guidelines of written protocols. Will be performing critical care procedures such as, but not limited to, intubation, arterial lines/central line insertion, chest tube placement and therapeutic bronchoscopy.
Accountabilities
- Patient evaluation: Assess patients by performing medical history and physical examination, including the medical, nursing, functional and financial conditions. Document all assessments in the patient medical record as appropriate.
- Ordering of tests: Order appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs and diagnostic procedures based on assessment and follow-up as appropriate.
- Write Prescriptions and Orders: Write prescriptions/physician orders under jointly developed protocols and practice guidelines.
- Patient Care: Manage care in collaboration with physicians and other clinical personnel. Provide consultation to colleagues and allied personnel.
- Rounds/Documentation: Rounds on inpatients based on directions of the attending physician. Dictate and document patient history, physical exam and plans of care. Document admission and discharge notes when appropriate, ensuring that all documentation is clear, complete and legible.
- Invasive Procedures: Perform specific invasive procedures, within the scope of advanced practice nursing.
- Care improvement and evaluation: Evaluate the quality of care provided and identify opportunities for improvements in patient care and clinical operations.
- Research: Participate in research projects, papers or other publications.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Master's Degree - Nursing; Nurse Practitioner Degree Emphasis or Program Certificate equivalent.
Experience - 3 years-Previous nursing experience in a critical care area such as ICU, CCU required. Some NP experience preferred but physicians will provide additional training.

South Carolina Official Recognition Nurse Practitioner
Prescriptive Authority South Carolina Nursing License
South Carolina Controlled Substance license; Federal DEA license
