Veterinary Technician - Surgery
Kennebunk Veterinary Hospital in Kennebunk, ME
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Provide compassionate care to pet patients and their loved ones
- Keep accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy
- Prepare and maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas
- Perform physical assessments and record your observations
- Keep furry friends calm and still during procedures (sometimes using chin scratches!)
- Prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients
- Explain necessary follow-up and home care instructions
- Stock clinic treatment area and exam rooms, and inform the inventory manager when supplies need to be ordered
- Assist the Veterinarian in medical, surgical, and dental procedures (be comfortable with blood draws; prepare patients for surgery; administer anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery; administer fluids)
- Care for all surgical materials and keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery
- Pharmacy skills, including protocols for filling in-house
- Monitors vitals by hand and with equipment
- Sample collection and processing for in-house and reference labs
- Communicates within the team, proactively advocating for their patient’s needs
- Operates practice management software (AVImark) and related software packages

REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Veterinary Technician Certification (CVT) or License (LVT) preferred but not required
- At least two years of prior dedicated surgery experience required
- Must have a positive attitude and be a team player
- Manage flow efficiently, focus on patient safety and be a team player
- Genuinely enjoys working with animals and can deal with them even when they are stressed, ill or in pain. Dedication to safety for all parties involved
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, including managing processes independently, accurately and reliably
- Strong work ethic and track record of being reliable
- Willingness to learn new skills and techniques
