JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the planning, organization, direction, supervision, and evaluation of all nursing services provided in the facility. Ensures nursing department compliance with regulations and implementation of Villa nursing core programs. Manages the Nursing Service department within budget. Follows Villa policies, procedures, and JACHO standards where applicable. In the absence of the Administrator, assumes responsibility for the entire facility.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews daily work assignments to ensure regulatory compliance and consistent staffing.
- Reassigns employees based on facility needs.
- Prepares evaluations of assigned employees.
- Enforces facility policies and issues Disciplinary Action Reports as needed.
- Participates in the interview process of applicants for the area of responsibility.
- Plans, organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates nursing services for desired outcomes.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and Villa Healthcare standards.
- Develops and updates philosophy and objectives for nursing care.
- Participates in the selection of new admissions and assesses facility needs.
- Ensures physician visits as required.
- Manages nursing department budget.
- Completes daily facility rounds for compliance.
- Collaborates on staff development programs for quality care.
- Ensures RAI/IPOC processes are timely.
- Maintains licensure status for nursing employees.
- Works on improving resident care quality.
- Coordinates Infection Control and Performance Improvement functions.
- Represents the facility in professional and community activities.
- Ensures customer service standards are upheld.
- Oversees record maintenance, nursing programs, and facility needs.
- Participates in program development for improved outcomes.
- Attends training and meetings as scheduled.
- On call 24/7 for nursing emergencies.
- Ensures Abuse & Neglect policies are enforced.
- Follows and enforces facility rules and policies.
- Reports incidents and maintains confidentiality.
- Uses protective equipment and follows infection control standards.
- Understands and follows HIPAA requirements.
- Reports HIPAA violations and safeguards computer use.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Good financial and management skills.
- Adaptability to flexible schedules and occasional travel.
- Positive communication with residents, families, and staff.
- Interest in working with care residents and the elderly.
- Effective delegation and management skills.
- Proficiency in English and basic computer knowledge.
- Health requirements compliance.
- Up to 10% travel.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Current RN license required. Prefer at least three years of previous DON experience.
