To perform routine radiographic procedures on designated portions of the body for use by physicians in diagnosing and treating patient illness and/or injury to ensure patient safety and quality care. The role of the radiology technologist I is to ensure Customer Satisfaction, support an atmosphere of respect and professionalism among other associates, including students from the School of Radiology, and perform advanced imaging in Surgery and Fluoroscopy.
Responsibilities:
- Position patients and adjust equipment, securing and immobilizing support devices as needed to perform procedures.
- Determine appropriate radiographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain quality films for the radiologists.
- Secure history from patients regarding the reason for prescribed tests, medication reconciliation, and record on appropriate forms for the radiologist's review.
- Assist radiologists with routine fluoroscopic and/or invasive procedures.
- Operate portable radiographic equipment and C-arm effectively in patient rooms, intensive care, and surgery.
- Initiate requests for emergency medical support as indicated by patient condition; this includes code blue, rapid response, etc.
- Document all allergic reactions according to departmental and hospital policy.
- Transport patients into and out of the department as necessary.
- Check film quality to ensure optimal quality is attained and correct film labeling is provided.
- Perform quality control activities, respond to inquiries, coordinate patient flow, and communicate with staff radiologists and other hospital personnel to ensure exams are completed in a timely fashion.
- Prepare radiographic/fluoroscopic rooms for procedures, maintaining equipment and supplies as required.
- Report deficient inventory of supplies and linen to Lead Technologist.
- Provide direction and instruction to students in general procedures.
- Maintain positive guest relations and telephone etiquette following prescribed departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform all other job duties as assigned.
- Take thorough and accurate patient medical histories.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Position and immobilize patients on examining tables.
- Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
- Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance according to the specifications of the examination.
