Medical Writer, Oncology
As Medical Writer with Clinical Communications, you will be working closely with an internal team dedicated to producing educational medical/scientific content (e.g., peer-reviewed manuscripts, slide decks, video-based learning) for oncology care provider audiences. You will have an opportunity to develop content on topics spanning the oncology landscape (disease states/therapeutic areas), attend medical conferences, and interact with leading experts/thought leaders in their field.
In this position, you will independently develop medical/scientific content that meets our highest standards of quality and accuracy. Candidates must have familiarity with oncology subject matter to succeed within this role. Candidates must show excellent attention to detail and ability to write, edit, and integrate feedback from multiple reviewers at various stages of the content lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform extensive literature review of various disease states, therapeutic advancements, current research trends, and clinical data.
- Comprehend and apply relevant evidence-based medical literature, clinical practice guidelines, and disease-state information for the development of content across various therapeutic areas (e.g., identify levels of evidence, clinical trial data, clinical utility of therapeutic choices and unmet needs in treatment landscapes, product-specific education).
- Develop relevant, accurate, high-quality content for digital, video, and event project deliverables. All written content and artwork are factually accurate, annotated and supported by appropriate references, and adhere to in-house style guidelines/American Medical Association Manual of Style (11th edition).
- Appropriately address and revise written content through its internal and external processes during the project lifecycle (e.g., incorporate faculty, peer review, and/or internal review comments) and prepare the work for submission.
- Ensure scientific/clinical accuracy of all pieces through global fact-check of referenced literature.
- Support preparation of promotional educational materials that adhere with pharmaceutical company-specific standards and requirements for compliance with FDA regulations for drug promotion.
- Attend professional conferences, events/meetings, and similar programming to capture presentation highlights or other summary content for project deliverables (travel expectations are <10%).
Qualifications
- An advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a healthcare-related field (life sciences, biomedical sciences) or a clinical degree (PharmD).
- 2+ years of medical writing experience in the medical communications industry.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, ability to multitask and handle multiple timelines, and excellent writing and problem-solving skills, time management (prioritizing, organizing, researching), attention to scientific accuracy and details.
- Microsoft proficiency (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other industry software [Adobe Acrobat tools and InCopy]).
