Doctoral Research in Psychology, Oregon State University, United States
I am accepting applications for 1 or 2 PhD students to start in Fall 2025 in Clinical Psychology or Health Psychology at Oregon State. My lab studies ableism and the ways disabled people resist it. Students with disabilities and other minorities are encouraged to apply!
Our PhD program in PsychScienceOSU is fully funded and comes with great health insurance.
In the Disability and Social Interaction Lab (DSIL), directed by Dr. Kathleen Bogart, we study ableism, or stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination towards disability. Nearly 20% of Americans have a disability, making it the largest minority group in the U.S. We examine disability from a social psychological perspective, focusing on attitudes toward disability and the management of stigma. Our work extends social psychological theories of intergroup prejudice to examine ableism. For example, does identifying as a person with a disability lead to greater well-being? Does a sense of disability pride protect people from ableism?
