JOB SUMMARY:
The Cardiac Sonographer (CS) performs all echocardiograms and maintains supplies/records relevant to the Echocardiography department. The primary role of the Cardiac Sonographer is to obtain diagnostic recordings of cardiac ultrasound images, Stress Echos and Doppler hemodynamic data.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
- High School graduate required.
- Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited diagnostic medical Sonography and Cardiovascular Technician program and/or eligible for RDCS credential. Must be RDCS within one year of employment.
EXPERIENCE
Three years’ full-time experience in an equivalent position preferred.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS
- Demonstrates skill with scanning and reporting transthoracic, and stress echocardiography.
- Arrhythmia interpretation skills preferred.
LICENSE/REGISTRATION CERTIFICATION:
- BLS certification.
- Credentialed as RDCS/RDMS, or eligible. Must complete within one year of hire.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL (not modifiable)
- Performs:
- Transthoracic echocardiograms: 2-Dimensional, M-Mode, and Doppler (PW, CW, Color Flow), Agitated saline study, Contrast, Pedoff.
- Exercise or pharmacological stress echo.
- Identifies pathophysiology and modifies exam appropriately.
- Makes quantitative and qualitative assessment of echo and Doppler data.
- Orders and stocks all supplies.
- Operates PACS digital workstation, i.e., reviews studies and generates preliminary reports.
SECONDARY (modifiable)
All other duties as assigned.
