Description
The Radiology Technologist is responsible for keeping patients and medical staff safe by appropriately preparing an exam room and outfitting all parties with the necessary protective equipment. Radiology Technicians educate patients about the purpose of the scan and answer questions. They carefully observe the monitor for abnormalities during a scan and produce a detailed report for the attending Doctor to interpret.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greets and escorts patients to the exam room.
- Uses beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
- Positions x-ray equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance.
- Positions patient on examining table, sets up, and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by Provider.
- Interviews patients and records chief complaint, past and present patient history, social history, family history, medication history, measures, and records vital signs (a minimum of three vital signs). Follows evaluation and management guidelines.
- Prepares patient and assists physician(s) with examination, treatments, and procedures.
- Prepares and administers medications and injections after verifying correct dosage (Use the 6 rights of medication).
- Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to Providers.
- Prepares examination rooms; sterilizes instruments for tests per established procedures.
- Thoroughly cleans equipment and examination rooms per policy.
- Notifies and records patients of test results, as directed by Provider.
- Instructs patients regarding medication and treatment instructions and discharges them.
- Posts tests and examination results to charts.
- Determines patients’ x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from Providers.
- Makes exposures necessary for the requested procedures, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards.
- Processes exposed radiographs using film processors or computer-generated methods.
- Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
- Prepares and sets up x-ray room for patient; sterilizes instruments for tests according to established procedures; thoroughly cleans equipment and exam room.
- Responsible for maintaining OSHA regulations in x-ray room(s).
- Assists in maintaining all equipment per appropriate regulations.
- Maintains patient confidentiality 100% of the time; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $27.00 + depending on experience - Partial Tuition Reimbursement for New Graduates - $5,000 sign-on bonus for experienced Rad Techs.
Position Type: Full-time. Part-time options may be available, but require a commitment to a set schedule. Part-time employees would be eligible for a prorated sign-on bonus or tuition reimbursement.
Schedule: 9AM-9PM one week: 3 weekday shifts 9am-9pm; next week: 2 weekday shifts and 2 weekend shifts 9am-9pm.
Requirements
- ARRT and LSRT license (Required)
- Current BLS certification
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
