The position is responsible for conducting, administering, and coordinating medical and industrial hygiene activities for employees and/or visitors as needed at the Reading Truck Body facility. The Occupational Health Nurse will also collaborate with the EHS Manager and EHS Corporate Director, to identify improvement to the worker safety programs, Industrial Hygiene programs, and will provide hands on case management for workers compensation claims. The position will include on site management of worker related health issues as well as liaison with panel physicians and health care providers to ensure proper treatment, and effective return to work programs.
The Nuts and Bolts
- Provide nursing assessment, treatment, tracking, follow-up and referrals, emergency care for health conditions, injuries and illnesses consistent with on-site accident response and case management protocol
- Assess and refer to Employee Assistance Program (EAP), medical plan or other appropriate resources for employees with health, work, stress, emotional and/or substance abuse problems
- Maintain HIPAA and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance standards and medical records as required by law
- Provide comprehensive knowledge of case management, emergency first aid procedures and nursing practice, clinical skills, including guidance and counseling that meets the needs of employees
- Assist with the accident investigation program, and participate in accident investigation as needed
- Evaluate and treat all injuries and illnesses in an efficient and professional manner within the scope of practice and consistent with clinical nursing guidelines while striving towards lowering recordable injury rates and while ensuring employees receive required treatment
- Provide medical response assistance for onsite injuries or accidents including on call support for emergencies off shift
- Coordinate with Director EHS to administer the Worker’s Comp Program to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA Log, records/ reports and worker medical files
- Contribute in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment
- Provide assistance to the EHS staff in implementing and managing the Respiratory Protection Program, including but not limited to respirator fit tests, pulmonary function tests, and medical clearances
- Assist with training and development of Response team with the EHS manager
- Develop or coordinate the development of OSHA and EPA compliant functional physical job descriptions where needed and provide the information to other department as needed; including pre-employment physical program
- Maintain AED and First Aid Room Supplies
- Manage Post Accident Drug and Alcohol Testing program, being the primary contact for outside medical professionals and channeling information as needed to HR or EHS
- Work with human resources to provide information as needed for FMLA or Short Term Disability
- Coordinate and work with company physician in scheduling treatment and follow-ups for on-site clinic visits
Required Credentials
- Minimum three to five years’ experience as an occupational health professional in a manufacturing environment or combination with ER or occupational medical clinic
- Associate Nursing Degree or Higher; B.S. Nursing Degree preferred
- Current CPR
