POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Practice Manager and medical provider, and in accordance with approved policies and procedures, provides quality care in an effort to achieve the best possible clinical outcomes. LPN will maintain patient confidentiality. LPN will maintain an appropriate level of knowledge and clinical expertise through continuing education, in-service programs, departmental competencies and self-development activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for facilitation of patient flow from registration through and including discharge.
- Performs general nursing assessments and completion of quality metrics based on current standards and documents appropriately.
- Completes necessary EMR documentation in compliance with established standards including vital signs, smoking status, height, and weight.
- Assists with patient pre-office visit preparations, such as obtaining PCP office notes and all relevant labs and studies.
- Assists|performs office-based procedures at the direction of physician|practitioner.
- Assists with surgical scheduling as well as patient scheduling for office visits and any studies ordered by provider (including obtaining necessary prior authorizations).
- Evaluates patient knowledge and understanding of health status and care needs and educates accordingly.
- Responds to patient phone calls and communicates information to providers.
- Actively reviews and requests prescription drug refill requests with treating provider, as well as assists with the monitoring of labs and study reports.
- Provides patient follow up and return phone calls for urgent and non-urgent issues as per policy and procedure.
- Notifies provider immediately of any urgent patient concerns.
- Assists all staff and providers with patient flow for evaluation and examination by providers in order to minimize wait times for patients.
- Demonstrates competency in Pulmonary Function testing and EKGs.
- Administers vaccines, draws blood, takes and records vital signs, and performs other required testing.
- Performs CLIA testing as per lab protocol including testing control and documentation.
- Orders office and medical supplies as required.
- Recognizes emergency situations and responds in accordance with established protocols.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Minimum: Graduate from an accredited school of Practical Nursing.
LICENSE:
Minimum: Current NYS LPN license.
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
Minimum: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through RQI; must obtain within 90 days of hire.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
New Grads Welcome
Preferred: Previous physician office experience preferred.
SKILLS:
Minimum: Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion and ability to deal with the public in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities and enhance the spirit of teamwork through effective role modeling.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills.
Computer literacy
Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office products and electronic medical record.
