JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the planning, organization, direction, supervision, and evaluation of all nursing services provided in the facility. Ensures nursing department compliance with regulations and implementation of Villa nursing core programs. Manages the Nursing Service department within budget. Follows all Villa policies and procedures and JACHO standards where applicable. In the absence of the Administrator, assumes responsibility for the entire facility.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviews daily work assignments to ensure regulatory compliance and consistent staffing.
- Reassigns employees based on facility needs.
- Prepares evaluations of assigned employees.
- Enforces facility policies and issues Disciplinary Action Reports.
- Participates in the interview process of applicants.
- Plans, organizes, directs, supervises, and evaluates all nursing services.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and Villa Healthcare standards.
- Develops and updates statements of philosophy and objectives.
- Participates in the selection of new admissions.
- Ensures necessary equipment, supplies, and staffing for patient care.
- Manages nursing department budget.
- Completes facility rounds daily.
- Collaborates in staff development programs.
- Ensures RAI/IPOC process completion.
- Maintains licensure status for nursing employees.
- Works to improve resident care quality.
- Coordinates Infection Control and Performance Improvement functions.
- Represents the facility professionally.
- Ensures customer service standards are upheld.
- Oversees various essential nursing programs.
- Attends training and meetings as required.
- On call 24/7 for nursing emergencies.
- Ensures Abuse & Neglect policies are enforced.
- Performs other assigned duties.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Good financial and management skills.
- Adaptability to flexible schedules and occasional travel.
- Positive communication with various audiences.
- Interest in working with elderly residents.
- Excellent management and delegation skills.
- Proficient in English.
- Meets health requirements.
- Basic computer knowledge with ability to learn new applications.
- Up to 10% travel.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
- Current RN license.
- Minimum three years of previous DON experience preferred.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Various physical requirements with limited exposure to hazards. Adherence to safety standards required. Meets all health requirements.
