Urgent Care Medical Laboratory Technician

Position Summary:
The Medical Laboratory Technician, under general supervision and medical supervision, performs waived and moderately complex laboratory tests defined by CLIA Regulations. Performs clinical laboratory test procedures in a manner that provides timely and accurate meaningful results in Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, and coagulation tests. Knowledge of Quality control, Instrument calibration, and preventative periodic maintenance of instruments is essential. Effective and clear communication with medical staff, clients, and patients is required.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Perform proficiency testing and monitor quality control functions for waived and moderately complex tests that do not require microscopic analysis.
- Demonstrate required competency with instrument operation, troubleshoot, and coordinate with service repair technicians to ensure instrument functionality.
- Receive, collect, and process samples, verifying patient information, billing order, specimen amount, and storage requirements.
- Accurately enter patient testing data and document corrections to meet established turnaround times.
- Maintain equipment in proper working order by performing scheduled periodic maintenance and keeping a clean work area.
- Order, label, maintain inventory supplies, and store supplies at proper temperatures.
- Archive and file QC data, patient logs, instrument maintenance records, and temperature logs.
- Check pending list orders at the end of each shift and notify nursing or providers for specimens submitted without test orders.
- Respond to unacceptable results and take appropriate actions to resolve discrepancies or refer problems to CLS or the immediate supervisor.
- Adhere to laboratory safety standards, including the use of personal protective equipment.
- Answer phone calls from offices requesting results.
- Maintain an organized and clean work environment.

Job Requirements
Experience Required:
- Minimum 6-month clinical training program approved by LFS resulting in Current California State (CDPH) Medical Laboratory Technician License.
Education Required:
- Associate degree or 60 semester or equivalent quarter units in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
Certifications Required:
- Current California State (CDPH) Medical Laboratory Technician License.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
Verbal and Written Skills Required to Perform the Job:
- Excellent interpersonal skills.

Technical Knowledge and Skills Required to Perform the Job:
- Familiarity and experience working with various laboratory instruments.
- Proficient in medical terminology.
- Basic computer skills and literacy.
- Demonstrate ability to be culturally sensitive in working with others.
- Ability to work well in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Outstanding organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
Equipment Used:
- Various lab testing equipment, computers, phones, copy machines, and fax machines.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
- Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens.
- Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens and patients.
- Required to wear protective personal equipment such as gloves, face shield, lab coats, and goggles.
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking; lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs.; bending, kneeling, climbing, pulling, and repetitive use of hands.
- Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.
- Travel to other clinics may be required based on business needs.
Universal Requirements:
Pre-employment requirements include I-9, physical, positive background and reference check results, complete application, new hire orientation, and compliance with all mandated vaccinations.
