Job Description
Purpose:Speech-language pathologist will work with the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team to help resolve communication disorders including the mechanical aspects of speech production, phonation, attention/memory, articulation, and language processing that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive benefit from the district's educational program.
Responsible To: Director, Assistant Director, and Coordinators.
General Responsibilities:
Conduct an assessment and diagnosis of speech, language, cognitive communication, and oral motor/swallowing skills so that appropriate interventions can be designed.
Provide a therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of speech/language students.
Assist teachers and parents in developing an appropriate individual education plan for students.
Ensure that Kansas State Board of Education guidelines for Special Education are met.
Participate in the screening, pre-assessment, identification, placement, follow-up, and reviews of students’ progress.
Provide appropriate information to students and families regarding community agencies and services available to them.
Collaborate with all providers so that the communication system can be implemented or utilized in all aspects of the student’s day.
Assist with public awareness activities that lead to a better understanding of the needs of exceptional children.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
Assist teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum adaptations/modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
Maintain an inventory of materials, assessment protocols, and supplies.
Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques related to multimodal communication systems for all identified students.
See those school district policies observed during all activities.
Obtain prior approval for all special activities and expenditures.
Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
Other duties as assigned by the Director, are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
