Do you have a passion for chemistry? Valley Water is looking for a highly capable Chemist I/II/III to join our Laboratory Services Unit! This position is in the professional chemist series of Valley Water's state accredited laboratory. The focus of this position is to perform analytical testing activities primarily in the inorganic chemistry section meeting all requirements of the Laboratory's quality assurance program, adhering to the regulatory requirements, and following specific U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Methods and/or Standard Method for water and wastewater analysis. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in environmental testing, associated quality control and quality assurance requirements, instrument troubleshooting, sample collection and sample receiving procedures, and use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). In addition, this position will be responsible for handling, storing, and managing hazardous material and hazardous waste, following all environmental health and safety policies and procedures, and be able to work well with team members.

Ideal Training and Education:Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field. Or directly related experience may be substituted for the college requirement on the basis of one and one-half years of experience for one year of education to a maximum of four years.

Laboratory Service Unit (Position Code 267)
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 10%-20% remotely.(1) The selection process may include one or more of the following: application review, application assessment, performance exercise, written exercise and/or interview.
