La Jolla Country Day School is seeking experienced, qualified substitute teachers for our Early Childhood Center (ECC). Genuine enthusiasm for, experience working with, and the working knowledge of the developing young child between 3 – 5 years of age are a must. Good humor along with effective communication skills, patience, creativity, interpersonal skills and the ability to treat others with dignity are crucial.
Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and should have prior teaching experience. Teachers in the ECC must have completed 6-12 units of coursework in early childhood studies, which include the following classes:
- Child/Human Growth & Development
- Child, Family, and Community
- Curriculum Development (in early childhood - music and movement, language arts, math, art and science, etc.)
Substitutes who possess the following will be given preference:
- Specific expertise in areas of child development and classroom management/organization
- The availability to accept assignments when scheduled several days in advance, and/or sometimes at the last minute due to illness
- Reliable contact information and responsiveness

All school personnel must successfully complete a fingerprint background check through Live Scan and provide current tuberculosis clearance. In addition, employees working with our ECC students must provide documentation of measles and TDap immunization and recent flu shot record or waiver.
