We are seeking a responsible, self-motivated individual to join our UNC Cancer team as a Nurse Navigator!
Incentives: This position qualifies for our UNC Hospitals RN Incentive Program, which includes $10,000 for a 3-year commitment. In addition, this position is also eligible for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance (based on location) and our employee referral program.
Role Overview: In this role, you will be a vital member of the patient's interdisciplinary team guiding them through their cancer care journey. The Nurse Navigator role is a salaried position, working 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday. This position is mostly remote with some onsite obligations and offers many appealing benefits including health & retirement plans as well as generous PTO accruals.
Essential Functions: An Oncology Nurse Navigator (ONN) works directly with cancer patients and caregivers to identify barriers facing families that may interfere with care delivery and cancer care outcomes. The Navigator is a key member of the UNC Cancer Care Navigation team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizes clinical nursing skills to provide in-person cancer support visits, virtual contact, and proactive outreach serving oncology patients, families, and caregivers.
- Practices oncology navigation that supports four areas: education, advocacy, resourcing, and support.
- Provides individualized guidance to identify health care barriers and promote timely assistance.
- Maintains knowledge of available resources within UNC Health and national oncology foundations.
- Collaborates with the Lead Navigator in the development and expansion of the Cancer Care Navigation Program.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, building trust and demonstrating empathy.
- Facilitates patient- & family-centered care appropriate for cancer treatment.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Passion for oncology nursing and community health nursing.
- Excellent clinical assessment and problem-solving skills.
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills.
- Strong communication skills with diverse populations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is an asset.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, candidates may possess ADN but must enroll in a BSN program within 4 years.
Licensure/Certification: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Oncology Nursing Certification (ONC) within two years of employment.
Experience: Two years of nursing experience and one year of related experience.
