Lab Instructional Specialist
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Neuroscience & Behavior Department Chair, the Laboratory Instructional Specialist’s primary responsibility is to teach up to four lab sections in each of the fall and spring semesters and to assist with the maintenance of the lab facilities and equipment.
Job Description:
- Assist in teaching introductory laboratory sections each semester, as needed
- Assist with curriculum development and course management to integrate laboratory course with other departmental course offerings
- Maintain regulatory compliance for lab courses including necessary licenses
- Oversee maintenance of equipment and laboratory facilities
- Order chemicals and supplies for the labs
- Maintain records of laboratory budgets, supplies, and equipment
- Oversee research integrity, laboratory safety, and waste management
- Conduct research during the summer under the supervision of a Barnard faculty member along with restocking and preparation duties
- Collaborate on pedagogy and/or other projects related to diversity, equity, and inclusion under the supervision of a Barnard faculty members
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Neuroscience, or a related field
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Word and Excel
- Proficiency in programming in Python or other language
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with autonomy
- The ideal candidate will work closely and collaboratively with a team of staff
- Prior experience in methods related to histology, electrophysiology, photometry and EEG analysis preferred
- Prior experience in laboratory management, programming and teaching preferred
Salary Range: $70, 000 - $75,000 annually
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimateof the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
