At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Metabolism.
Projects for this position will include utilizing preclinical cell culture and animal models to study endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and the ER resident protein starch binding domain containing protein 1 (STBD1) in various contexts, such as cancer, obesity, and diabetes. The applicant will also be allowed to develop their own individual projects for future NIH K01 or K99 funding. Hands-on training will be provided in the lab for genotyping and metabolic phenotyping of mice, fluorescent imaging, stable and radioactive isotope tracing, and numerous other basic biochemistry assays. Moreover, training on grantsmanship and career development will be provided.
Major Responsibilities
- Design, oversee, and lead a research project
- Organize and handle data analysis
- Prepare abstracts and talks for scientific conferences
- Prepare manuscripts for submission to high-impact journals
- Write and submit research grants
Qualifications
- PhD or MD in scientific discipline required
- 1 year of experience working with mice preferred
- Experience in molecular biology and cell culture preferred

Additional Job Description:
- This postdoctoral position requires 40 hours of work per week, and applicants must be willing to work flexible hours.
- Several hours daily will be working with mice or in a basic science lab setting.
