We support not only women in our culturally diverse community, but also support women across the state who may need additional attention due to a high risk pregnancy or fetal diagnosis. Provider care is supported by OB Physicians, Maternal Fetal Medicine Physicians, Family Practice Physicians, Certified Midwives, and Anesthesiologists.
With our partnership with the University of MN, the Birthplace supports the development of student nurses and residents through onsite observation and training. This addition also helps continue to improve our evidence based practice and ongoing professional learning!
Labor and Delivery
- 14 Labor rooms, 3 Triage, 3 OR’s, 10 pregnancy special care rooms
- Nurse to patient ratio: We support AWHONN standards
- Labor support: The unit supports multiple interventions to reduce primary cesarean section rates and help support low risk births. This includes the use of ambulation, birthing balls, birth slings, use of tubs, and support from student or personal doulas.
- Pain Management: In addition to labor support, patients do have the option of using labor slings, clinical aromatherapy, nitrous oxide, or receiving an epidural.

This position will be working 48 hours every two weeks on the night shift, 12 hour shifts, every third weekend.
Responsibilities
- Care and assessment of the low risk and high risk pregnant mother/family
- Supporting the ante-partum and postpartum mother
- Fetal monitoring assessment and documentation
- Advocating and partnering with the mother/family on assessment, planning, and goal setting
- Encouraging and effective team member
- Actively participate in our culture of safety and communication
- After gaining low and high risk labor experience, nurses will be trained to circulate in the OR.
Qualifications
Required:
- MN RN License
- BLS (basic life support)
- 1 year OB experience required
Preferred:
- BSN or BAN
- NCC certification in Inpatient Obstetrics, Electronic Fetal Monitoring, or Maternal Newborn
Additional Requirements:
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire
