About the DON Position
The Director of Nurses (DON) is a Registered Nurse (RN) who supervises the provision of therapeutic services provided from all disciplines and is responsible for overall care and case management activities in their assigned branch office(s). The DON directs all branch operations, ensuring that care/services delivered by staff and contract disciplines meet patient needs and are compliant with agency policies, state and federal laws and regulations. The DON is expected to lead their branch office with distinction to excel at quality care, quality documentation, growth, and financial viability.
DON Required Skills / Qualifications
- A current RN license through the state board of nursing.
- Completion of an associate degree in nursing or higher.
- At least one year of Home Health nursing experience.
- Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills, with effective communication abilities.
- Intermediate computer skills.
- A positive attitude and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated clinical judgment and observation skills.
- A valid driver's license, with an insured automobile that meets agency requirements and is in good working condition.
DON Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of issues related to the delivery of home health services and the ability to problem solve effectively.
- Knowledge of Medicare guidelines governing home health agencies or experience/abilities that indicate that with training they would excel.
- Management or leadership experience preferred.
DON Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises staff and the day-to-day office/clinical/field operations, ensuring daily tasks are completed even during staff absences.
- Monitors daily workload and delegates responsibilities when required.
- Provides a positive work environment by consistently modeling in a positive way, the agency philosophy, mission, values, and standards of care, and providing a professional role model for other staff.
- Reads and adheres to all agency policies and procedures and adheres to all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Adheres to HIPAA regulations and follows agency protocol maintaining confidentiality.
