Position Summary: The Department of Pediatrics at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is recruiting a rehabilitation psychologist, rehabilitation neuropsychologist, or experienced clinical psychologist with an interest in pediatrics. The position provides an exciting opportunity to join the team at UNMH Carrie Tingley. UNMH is the only academic medical center and the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the state, which houses the only pediatric rehabilitation program in New Mexico. The faculty position will be through the Department of Pediatrics with a secondary appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences/Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
UNM comes under the scope of various loan repayment and loan forgiveness application opportunities for eligible providers. Application to these programs is required under each agency’s application process, criteria, deadlines, and approval processes.
The position responsibilities include:
- Clinical: psychological and cognitive assessments, direct interventions with patients and families, and consultation as part of an inpatient rehabilitation team.
- Consultation: frequent multidisciplinary collaboration with providers from a range of medical subspecialties.
- Research: opportunity to participate in ongoing research projects or develop an independent research program.
- Education: opportunities to supervise and provide didactic education to trainees in the two APA Accredited psychology internship programs in Albuquerque, with additional opportunities to provide education to all levels of medical school learners.
Qualifications:
- PhD or PsyD.
- Minimum one (1) year clinical experience.
- Successful completion of EPPP (Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology).
- Able to obtain medical licensure(s) in the state of New Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Educational, teaching and supervisory experience with trainees in multiple disciplines.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Experience providing interdisciplinary clinical services to an inpatient pediatric rehabilitation population.
- Post-doctoral experience or training in pediatric or rehabilitation psychology.
- Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and having a keen interest in working with children with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, and neurobehavioral problems.
- Experience in integrative behavioral health setting providing brief interventions to children and families.
- Strong clinical skills in motivational interviewing, brief solution-focused therapy, and behavioral interventions.
- Ability to provide consultation to families, schools, and providers that address children with special healthcare needs and challenging behaviors.
